What is indie? Historically, the term "indie" denotes bands that are on independent record labels. It seems, though, that it is used more now to refer to a style of music and the definition of that style is growing broader by the week. Major media always borrows from the underground, it's easy to look at the amount of "indie rock" being put out now and draw parallels to the alternative music craze of the early 90s.

It's particularly annoying to us because there is music coming out on independent labels that is very good. But trying to get many "indie kids" to listen to it is difficult. Indie music, in the current music market, has some well-marketed bands, and those are the ones that the indie crowd listens to. I mean, Ja Rule's Murder INC wasn't a major label either, but it definitely banked... at least until Irv Gotti went to prison.

Now to talk about the indie fashion part, because music and fashion go hand-in-hand, whether or not one likes to admit it. Indie clothing, indie clothes, indie shirts, indie pants, whatever... there isn't too much independent about it. Rivet belts, studded belts, vintage shirts, low-rise pants, unkempt or pulled-forward hair... it's a specific and easily-defined look, like the hip-hop scene in that respect. We don't go for that, we are all about uniqueness.
